Mary Stetson Bowers was born in Massachusetts in 1815 or 1816, and married Josiah Moody Bartlett. Bartlett, a talented amateur artist, was an Episcopal clergyman who served churches in Camden, New Jersey, and Fisher's Island, New York. The couple had nine children.
